PRIDE SESSION 2 TRAINING MATERIALS

Session 2, "Teamwork Toward Permanence," introduces participants to the concept of permanence; a key concept in the child welfare system nationwide.  In addition to discussing the importance of permanent connections for children, the session introduces the Adoption and Safe Families Act (ASFA), which has driven case practice in New Jersey and most other states since its inception in 1997.  The session also includes extensive discussion of the different parental roles and how they are shared between birth parents, DYFS, the courts and resource parents, and how this can affect a resource parent's autonomy in making decisions on behalf of children in their care.
