PRIDE SESSION 4 TRAINING MATERIALS

Session 4, "Meeting Developmental Needs: Loss," discusses how all children who enter family foster care have experienced many losses and the effect that this may have on their sense of self-esteem and well-being.  There is also extensive discussion about how resource parents must identify themselves as "loss managers" to help children navigate their pathway through the grieving responses and recognize a child's response to grief.  For homework, participants must complete a "loss history chart" that identifies significant losses in the participant's life, how they responded to the loss and what supports were in place to help them deal with the loss.  Session 4 normally includes a 1 hour presentation by Jersey Battered Women's Services (JBWS) on Domestic Violence.
